A Few Things I Have Learned During the Pandemic

It is amazing how a virus can upset the entire world, but it has! I have lost many friends and some family members. There is no need to repeat all the hardships that have come along because of COVID and the variants.

A few lessons have been positive. I have learned how much I can do without. Because I have been at home 100% of the time, I have spent very little on food from a restaurant, yet I have eaten better. Several times when my daughters came for a visit, they wanted something special, so we bought food from the drive through and brought it home.

My need to “dress up” has gone with the wind! I have worn loose fitting, comfortable clothes, which has spoiled me. Most of my clothes have hung in the closet, but they are still good and will be ready when my schedule changes. No money has been spent on buying new things because it has not been necessary. Most of the driving I have done has been to doctor’s appointments and all my doctors are located within a mile or so of my home, so I have not had to buy a lot of gas. That has been a real blessing because of the rising cost per gallon.

My church broadcasts on television and I have watched Sunday school, prayer meeting and the Sunday worship services from home. The meetings have changed over time, but for those who cannot attend in person can still be a part of church life. Hopefully, everyone will be able to return early in the new year.

One thing I have missed has been being with my friends when we traveled to many parts of South Carolina and neighboring states. I had already had to give up long trips. I had been to most places anyway and it wasn’t necessary to repeat trips.

I am so sorry for everyone who has endured hardships of any kind. I have been very fortunate to have my daughter do much of my grocery shopping when she did hers, In recent months I bought food when I had an appointment that required me to go out. But when I look at my life and how it has changed during the pandemic, I have been truly blessed. I will never take life for granted again, but will cherish each day as a gift from God.
