Time marches on….

I have been slack so far as publishing anything in my journal since COVID19 took over my life. I keep my personal journal up to date, but Jean’s Journal was cast aside for more important happenings.

Everything that is now making headlines has changed our lives and seems like something from a science fiction movie. I remember years ago watching some of Rod Serling’s programs on television that seemed strange and unbelievable. They were rather frightening, but nothing to compare to the present. One main difference in the “make believe “ programs and the present is that the horrors now are real!

I consider myself to be a person of average intelligence who tries to keep informed about current events, but I like a simple, uncomplicated day to day lifestyle. I am thankful that I was born in the South, where people lived in harmony and did not care for sensationalism. During my childhood days in North Carolina, times were hard. People cared for each other, worked strenuously making a living, worshipped on Sunday and life was good.

Time does not stand still and we would not want that. Long ago illnesses took many lives. I remember when iron lungs were used to keep patients alive when polio was prevalent. My grandmother lost a little girl due to scarlet fever. Since the beginning of time, there have been epidemics that have wiped out many lives.

When I read accounts of mass illnesses that took place years before, it is like reading history that was real, but because I was not involved, it was just something that happened. What is taking place now is real and it is occurring in great numbers to our friends and families. Just a few days ago, the sad news of eight people dying as a result of attending a funeral for someone who was loved and the virus was spread from person to person, made headlines. Another heart wrenching event was when a husband and wife died almost at the same time, holding hands and praying.

Every weekday and on Sunday mornings at 7:00 AM, I have a Bible study with Dr. David Jeremiah. He is such an encourager and makes living in these circumstances less frightening. Life is not a fairytale, as is sometimes portrayed by Hollywood, but is real and the answers to our many questions can be found in the Bible. Many years ago I always carried a little gold colored pamphlet which Campus Crusade used a witnessing tool, in my purse. It said, “God has a wonderful plan for your life! “ That statement has not changed. In this earthly life, we will face trials and tragedies, but as we are told, the BEST is yet to come!
