AWOL

I am not a member of the military, so I have not really been “absent without leave.” However, after my Valentine trip in February, I have not written in my blog. I write each day in my personal journal, but those entries are not for publication.

So many things have taken place, it is mind boggling. Without looking at my calendar, I cannot recall everything. I had flooring replaced in the kitchen, laundry room, the master bedroom and two bathrooms. Part of the floors in the house were wood and the bedrooms were carpeted.

When the workmen took the original vinyl up in the kitchen, they discovered that the dishwasher was leaking, so the wood flooring had to be repaired. The dishwasher had to be replaced, also. It took some time to do all that was necessary to finish that job.

I had wanted to change the color of the walls in the entire house, but various things kept delaying that.

Health issues, along with the many appointments that were necessary, a number of mini vacations and going to classes for six week intervals caused some of the reasons to stop writing the blog.

Once some time was made for the interior of the house to be freshly painted, the preparation of taking all the pictures down began. Almost everything had to be moved or rearranged. I even thought it may have been simpler to buy a new house and move what I needed to it.

My present home is so convenient to everything, that thought was quickly dismissed! Once I had done what I needed to do, the three men came in to begin the transformation. They are experts who have been in business for many years. They were strong and moving furniture seemed rather easy for them.

All my regular activities stopped while the work was taking place. I spent time in my sunroom so I would be out of the way. I did find time to read a book, so that was nice. The men were so efficient and did not waste one minute. I was very pleased with the fresh look as their work progressed.

My house had a totally new look! I put fewer pictures on the walls. My daughter gave me a beautiful new shower curtain for the guest bathroom. Because the colors were different, I had to buy a new rug and towels. I am so pleased with the changes!

I could use all the window treatments I had, but my daughter thought I should have a new comforter set for my bedroom. Both daughters gave that to me. I have the most thoughtful girls in the world!

I rearranged some furniture and area rugs, which I wanted to do. I felt like I was in a new house! It was a long, drawn out ordeal, but so worth the inconvenience.

I have had health issues for some time which I deal with. When I had my yearly mammogram, I was notified there was a problem and was told that I needed to have some additional tests made. That was done within a few days and surgery was scheduled very quickly.

I cannot find adequate words to thank everyone involved at the Lexington Medical Center for the prompt action they took. My Oncologist is wonderful.

I can truly say that life has changed a bit since my story on February 13! My house is fresh and clean. It looks so much larger and the new accent colors in the bathrooms and my bedroom add so much.

I hope that I will be able to write more often now that the dust has settled. Two weeks ago I took a trip to the mountains see the leaves from a train ride that lasted four hours. Before I left to go to North Carolina, I decorated my entire house with the colors of Fall. Every season has its special highlights.

I love the bedding plants I put out in the Spring. Nothing is more beautiful than all the flowering trees. Usually at least one time during Winter we have snow. What is more beautiful than the earth when it is covered in white ?

Summer is nice, but very hot in the South. I enjoy the flowers that bloom in the extreme heat, but I think my choice of seasons has to be the Fall.

I am settled in for the upcoming holidays in my home, which seems like a new one! My health is improving, which is a blessing and hopefully I will not have to be AWOL again any time in the future.
